The Gloom Unit Are Coming Heavier on “Come Heavy II: Mo Heavy” (EP Assessment)

That is the 2nd EP from west coast horrorcore duo the Gloom Unit consisting of Acetone Boogie & Frankie Goldie. One in all whom comes straight out of Tucson, Arizona & the opposite representing Sin Metropolis Las Vegas, Nevada respectively as a part of the Swamp Society collective. Acetone’s been placing it down for the underground for over a decade at this level placing out a complete of three solo LPs as of me scripting this evaluation & Frankie has been establishing himself artistically by doing a pair options & even releasing 2 solo singles. Come Heavy final New 12 months’s Day produced by Devereaux was a phat introduction to the unit & are returning 12 months later unloading Mo Heavy.

After the “Mo Heavy” intro, the primary track “Cash Makin’” is a dark-synth lure opener telling everybody to maneuver out the best way to allow them to get to the bread whereas “Honey Berry” takes a tropical lure vibe to the beat getting on their Gloom kind shit. “D.M.M.D.I. (Satan Made Me Do It)” heads for a cloudier path asking for folks to test their shit in since they want it main into “Denzel” calling for the roof to burn.

“No Sleep” continued the opposite half of Come Heavy II: Mo Heavy with Frankie Goldie atmospherically gettin’ on his count-up shit whereas “Raindance” manically declares that the Unit be working each piece of the underground at this level. “That is How It Endz” wraps up the duo’s 2nd EP with an Acetone Boogie solo minimize that he dropped final spring by working in some sampling strolling alone beneath the moonlight.

Over a complete 12 months since Come Heavy marked their introduction to the the world, the Gloom Unit are again with one other EP carrying over each single factor that made it’s predecessor a enjoyable New 12 months’s hear as Devereaux expands on their darkish lure sound in favor of drawing inspiration from cloud rap to the Memphis scene & each MCs leveling up their chemistry after a complete 54 weeks.
