Ah, Dignity. I’ve reviewed a music of theirs annually since 2024. The general arc of their scores has not been favorable, although they nonetheless boast one of the unexpectedly nice buried treasures to their title. New single Slipshot does little to reignite any spark I might need felt about their debut period.
To place it merely, Slipshot is a duplicate of a duplicate of a duplicate. It borrows varied components from Okay-pop’s boy group soundscape, crafting a hodgepodge of tropes that’s comparatively strong however totally unneeded. We’ve bought the swaggering chant of a refrain, a number of hits of shiny pop-funk and fairly a number of NCTisms packed into the instrumental. At its greatest, there are moments that recall early Seventeen b-sides. Nevertheless, the overriding takeaway I’ve after listening to the music is the phrase “slipshot!” chanted again and again with no actual function.
